I had a great weekend back home in Iowa. Maddux did too. Besides a couple of potty breaks, he’s been sleeping since we got home last night. That dog is wiped. It’s fantastic.

He’s not used to all the action. Including Maddux, there were 3 dogs and 3 cats at my parent’s house this weekend. Plus 4 rambunctious kiddos. Chaos. Can’t wait for Thanksgiving when there will be 5 dogs. My dad’s already stockpiling Xanax for the occasion.
The weather was gorgeous, so Maddux and I spent a good amount of time outside exploring my parent’s backyard. He loved running around and sniffing everything. Probably smells a little different than the city.

Saturday morning my mom, Maddux, and I hit up the Farmers’ Market.

Lots of fall produce.

I bought a butternut squash, sweet onions, caramel rolls, and maple syrup. I would’ve bought more produce had I not had to lug it all back to Chicago.

I bought the caramel rolls to bring back for Ryan. They are made by the Dominican Sisters at Sinsinawa Mound. Can’t go wrong with any of their breads, those Sisters know how to bake!
Saturday afternoon was spent at my sister’s house, which is so cute. She really is quite the Martha, as is my mom.

Lots of doggy playtime.

Maddy even got to go off leash, which he rarely gets to do (other than at the dog park).

A perfect fall day spent with family. Love.
Stay tuned for part two of my weekend – my high school reunion!

Love all your beautiful pictures – it looks like you had an amazing time at home. I love small towns and I sometimes wish I had some family members who live in small towns so I could go and visit.
Love that sign too – hilarious!

Agreed. How about Thanksgiving weekend?
This was such a beautiful post. Iowa looks so gorgeous in the fall! I love your sister’s bat decoration. So classy… yet so perfect for Halloween.

Gotta love the farmer’s market! Those bats on the wall are really cool. Easy, but super creative!
Maddux is such a cool-looking dog! I love basenjis. I don’t know very many people who have one. We also have a less-popular dog breed (although not as unusual as a basenji); people always think that our chesapeake bay retriever is a lab with a bad hair day.

Aww, yeah he’s definitely a unique one, that’s for sure. Not only does he look different, but his personality is like a cross between a cat and a dog, goofy little guy! I had to Google the Chesapeake Bay Retriever – you described them perfectly
Aww it looks like you had such a great time!
Those caramel rolls looks to die for! YUM!
Can’t wait to see how your high school reunion went!
Beautiful pics! Your parents’ home looks amazing! I love going home, too. Everything is much slower and everyone is so easy-going. And Roosevelt *LOVES* to be able to run free with the other dogs. He usually sleeps for 2+ days after we return from a weekend in the country!

I love seeing people after not seeing them for a period of time! Distance does make the heart grow fonder…
