I’m all about trying new things, but I have a tendency to give up on them after a fairly short period of time.
Exhibit A.) High school sports. I didn’t just play one or two sports and stick with them throughout high school. Oh no.
Softball – 2 years, Basketball – 1 year, Tennis – 1 year, Track – 2 years, Cheerleading – 1 year. Two year limit and I’m out baby.
Exhibit B.)

That dusty old thing is the guitar I tried to learn to play in college. Yeah, that happened.
Exhibit C.)

Knitting. Or crocheting. Or something along those lines. See, I don’t even know what the heck those needles are for, I spent so little time using them.
However…
Today I signed up for something I am determined to see to the end. I signed up for Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping.
What is FXB?
From their website:
“Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping® is a body changing, life-style transforming fitness program designed to help you quickly improve your fitness level. In ten weeks, our students make positive, permanent changes to their health, strength, appearance and confidence.
Farrell’s® 10-Week Challenge combines exercise through fitness kickboxing and strength training, nutrition, a coach, certified instructors, teammates and a $1000 contest to motivate you to transformation. The Farrell’s team will lead you to a healthy lifestyle, weight loss, increased lean muscle mass and complete body transformation.”
The workouts are at their gym – 45 minutes a day, 6 days a week, for 10 weeks. Then on top of that there is a nutrition plan that you are supposed to follow. So yeah, it’s going to be a challenge. I’ve been working out pretty consistently for a year or two now, but have yet to actually increase the intensity of my workouts. I think this is just the kick in the ass I need to step it into higher gear. I don’t need to lose any weight, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t like to lose some “vanity” pounds. And I can definitely improve my level of fitness. It’ll be interesting to see where I’m at 10 weeks from now.
I’ve added a tab called FXB to the menu bar and I’ll be keeping you all posted on my progress. I’m pretty excited! Orientation is this Saturday!

Omg, Cait, this sounds so cool! I’m especially intrigued as to what is “fitness kickboxing”… sounds awesome! Also: so cool that they incorporate nutrition in there too! Do they make accommodations for your vegetarian diet? I assume FXB is a local gym where you live, and not a national chain? Cuz it sounds super cool! I think I would try it come winter time in Phoenix (cuz Lord knows I’m not going outside to do anything in the summer!!)

It’s a chain – I heard about it from friends who did it in Iowa. Looks like they have one in Chandler, Arizona. This is the first Chicago location and it’s brand new, we will be the first session.
haha, I have always wanted to play guitar and got one for Christmas only to have it be totally deserted. Though I did stick to Basketball and Cross-Country in high school.
I think a lot of these ambitions, even if abandoned are good for us to even find out what we like doing. Based on your blog, I have no doubt you will see this through. I can’t wait to read about your progress!

Haha, I’m thinking a lot of people have tried and deserted at least one instrument at some point in their lives. Thanks, yeah I’m hoping I stick it out!
Good luck! The program looks pretty intriguing (and Lord knows I need a kick in the butt) so I’m excited to read what you have to say about it. Enjoy!

Thanks! I’ll definitely be posting updates throughout the program.
I’m checking out the FXB link right now! It sounds intense but that might be what I need!
