Good morning! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I’ve had a delicious food-filled weekend so far.
Friday night we had plans with a few friends to go to dinner at Tango Sur. And by a few friends, I mean thirty. There’s never a small get-together when it comes to our friends, we like to roll 30 deep (same crew as Camping and Arlington).
Since our group was so big we couldn’t get reservations until 9:30. Ryan and I decided last minute to have a few people over for a pre-dinner happy hour, so I ran over to Trader Joe’s after work and picked up a few snacks.

If you’re ever need last-minute appetizers, Trader Joe’s is the place to go.
Tango Sur is a BYOB restaurant. And BYOB we did…

Think we had enough wine? And that was just for our half of the table.
Our group was split between two long tables. We essentially took up the entire back of the restaurant.

Dinner started out with rolls and salads.

I chose the Berenjena for my entree “Oven baked eggplant layered with spinach, provolone, parmesan, and ricotta served with a delicious tomato cream sauce“. Oh my, delicious is right. And decadent.

It was like a lasagna using eggplant in place of the noodles. I ate a pretty solid portion of it, but it was heavy and I got full quickly. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals – with most people getting steak (Tango Sur is an Argentinian steakhouse). We went to a nearby bar after dinner and then headed home in the middle of a monsoon. Seriously, it was insane. The streets were all flooded. The cab couldn’t even take us all the way home because the streets looked like this.

We had to wade through that to get home. For real. Disgusting. It ended up being the largest single-day rainfall in Chicago history.
Saturday, the decadent eating continued.
Costello’s for lunch. I had the Veggie Grinder “a whole wheat sub roll with hummus and provolone, oven baked then dressed with lettuce, tomato, onion, pepper rings and classic vinaigrette.” minus the provolone.

I still have half left, so that will be my lunch today.
Dinner was Pete’s Pizza. A favorite of ours. We were considering going out for pizza and a movie, but since we already had a Netflix movie we decided to order in instead. We’ve had something going on pretty much every Saturday this summer, so staying in was a welcome change.

My half of the pizza was pineapple. Pretty standard for me. I also had a side salad in an attempt to get a little nutrients in.
And I ended up having the leftover pizza for breakfast this morning. Yeah, I see a gym sesh in my near future. And veggies.
It’s raining right now so we are trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our day. Boo! Rain, rain, go away!

Oh my. That veggie grinder is my idea of an excellent meal (love that you refer to it as a grinder by the way – that’s what I grew up calling it but no one around me knows the term and instead says “sub” or “hoagie”).
I think it’s supposed to rain here too which means online shopping, gym time and cleaning for me!
Holy heck! Maybe BYOB really stands for Bring Your Own Boat?
I heart Tango Sur! Then again, I love most of Southport. :p
And SERIOUSLY- that rainfall was out of control. Addison and Clark looked like that, too after the bars closed and we were trying to get a taxi.
I have no idea how that taxi got us home…
