- Hi! I'm Caitlin, a 20-something Chicago girl doing my best to stay healthy and fit! Follow me as I share my meals, workouts, and how I enjoy all the big city has to offer!
Orientation for FXB was bright and early this morning.
First up was our fitness evaluation. We had our measurements taken and were tested on a few physical exercises. In five weeks we’ll have our second fitness evaluation and then we’ll have our third evaluation at the end of the program (10 weeks). Overall, I was pretty ok with most of my numbers, but there are a few areas I’d like to improve on (ahem, big ‘ol back porch, I’m looking at you). I’ll post my progress once I have some numbers to compare against.
Like I said in my last post, we will be working out 6 days a week. Workouts will alternate between strength training and kickboxing. We got our gloves today, pretty excited to start hitting those bags!
Next, they went over the nutrition program. I was a little worried initially because I thought that it would be totally restrictive, but in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Basically, we are to eat 6 small meals a day. Each meal should incorporate a protein and a carb, making sure you are getting some fruits & veggies in there, too.
The best part of the nutrition plan? We get a “fun day” aka. eat and drink whatever you want day. Pretty sure that’s going to be Saturdays for me. Hello pizza and beer, haha. I’m going to try not to go overboard on those days, but it’s nice knowing that nothing is totally off-limits during these next 10 weeks.
Oh, and probably the most important part of the nutrition plan, and what will probably be a challenge for me, is to drink at least 80 ounces of water/day. I am horrible at keeping hydrated during the day. I have no excuse, I’m just lazy I guess. I have a fridge 10 feet to the right of my desk and a bathroom 10 feet to the left of my desk. Use them and use them often, girl.
So, if you can’t tell already, I am stoked to be starting this program (obviously, cause this is likely the wordiest post I’ve ever written). I think it’s just the jump-start I need to increase my fitness level and tone up a little more before the warm weather comes (if it will ever come. Chicago winters…brutal). Our coach is awesome and super enthusiastic and it will be fun getting to know my fellow students. We’ll be there to push each other, hold each other accountable, and have fun together.
Now, excuse me while I go stuff my face. This thing doesn’t officially start until Monday. I’m going to a movie and getting buttered popcorn and then getting pizza for dinner.
